Help me decide between a Quadra Fire Adventure 3 and a Pacific Energy Summit Wood Stove

I will be putting in a wood stove this spring, and am trying to decide between the Quadra Fire Adventure 3 and the Pacific Energy Summit models. I like the looks and reputation of the Summit better, but I also like the thermostatically controlled aspect and (claimed) long burn times of the Adventure. I am a bit leery of the complete lack of reviews of the Adventure however, despite it having been out for over a year now.

My house is right at 5,000 sq. ft. with about 1,300 of that being...

Blaze King Bypass question

Sorry if it's been asked before. Searches came up dry for me.

I have a blaze King ultra. Love it. I have a friend with a King as well who actually was the one to recommend it to me. When chatting with him recently, I learned that when he does a reload, he throws the bypass immediately. I asked 'only on hot reloads, right'? He said he does it even when he's starting from a cold restart. His thinking being that he might as well throw as much heat through it to get up to temp as fast as...

Loading unit Not Pumping

Good Morning All.

So I went to fire up the Varm yesterday for the first time this season (oil has been cheap and I needed to make some mods to my storage). Got a little heat in the boiler and ceramics, and noticed my inlet temps were still really low. The motor on my loading unit was hot, but it was pretty clear I wasnt getting any pumping.

I see there is a plug on the end of the motor (its a Grundfos circ pump), and if I open it I get a little water out, but Im not clear what it is that...

Vermont Castings Radiance gas log set

I am looking for a log set that is compatible with a VC Radiance vented gas stove. Buying a new set is not in my budget. Maybe you have one that is no longer working and want to sell the log set? Thanks.

Complete newbie question - what would you install

The reason for venturing onto this forum & this post. I am getting crowns put on my chimneys soon & while the guy is there I decided that I would like to take at least some initial steps to getting one of my fireplaces operational. Primarily will be doing the initial step of installing a new stainless steel flu as I currently have an unlined brick masonry one. I’m trying to research options as best I can

If you had a blank slate to get a fireplace in operation what route would you go?...

Blaze King stole my dog and gave me gas.

Here are a couple of my earlier posts.

Now on with the story.

When we first got our new Blaze King Sirocco 30.1 we did not have a dog as we had to put ours down a few years ago and weren't sure we wanted to get another one. Well, we wound up adopting this guy. He's a 50 pound Bull...

? for the experts!

I've been lurking here for a few weeks trying to learn what I can about saws and stoves! You all seem like a very knowledgeable and kind group willing to help out a newbie.

Here is what we are going for. We live in SW Idaho, winters are mild to cold. Most days are in the 30s with lows in the teens. We will go weeks, or months like this year with highs in the teens to single digits to lows below zero. We have a 2300 sq/ft house (not to scale floor plan attached) that was built in 2008...

BK king cat inactive, CO problem

I'm hoping you all can help me otherwise I'm going to have a very expensive, decorative cold black box in the corner of my living room.

We recently moved into a new house with a BK king stove. We have been having no end of problems with smoke in the house when we first light it which we are told is a problem with our chimney being too long and getting too cold.

Today though, we had a different problem. We stacked the stove full at 3pm, left it burning at 2 (3 o'clock) all day and...

Shagbark and red oak leaving me unimpressed

So this past weekend I loaded up my wood box for the week with a pretty healthy dose of my shagbark and red oak. This would be/is the first big run for this stash. I was pretty excited as I've never had great quantities of either in the past.
Well while I'm not horribly disappointed I'm far from thrilled with the performance so far. I loaded up the osburn last night and had it cruising by about 815, I woke up around 230 and came out to see what was left and for the second night in a row i...

Heat pump water heater

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on this? Im currently heating with electric and I want to get my energy bill down of course but I also want to help out with the environment. I have no solar tho it is in a future plan and I have looked at both a solar batch and evacuated tube setup but dont really want to pay for the install. The best bet would be a sun bandit setup with panels and a hyrbrid tank but oh my lord, the cost is unreal. $9999 installed. I do not think so! The ROI would be never....

Damper vs air control

I'm not sure which sub-forum to post this in, but can some one explain in layman's terms the effective difference between a damper and an air-control. I understand that the damper limits the flow of smoke up the chimney and the air-control limits the amount of air that feeds the fire. So they both limit the fire but from opposite ends. In actual practice do both have the same effect of slowing the burn? Are there differences in what they accomplish? I know that some people add dampers...

Duravent Clean Out Tee

Looking to see if anyone has any leftover clean out tees that they don't need. I need one but trying to avoid paying $50-$60 for that one piece so I figured i'd ask around here.

Main burner won't light

A friend of mine is having trouble with their Wolf GDI-30N insert, and asked me to help since I am more mechanically inclined.

The pilot stays lit, and has a proper flame pattern, but the main burner will no longer light at all (they said it used to light after 10-20 seconds).

I've cleaned the thermopile, and get a reading of 730 volts.
I tested the main valve, and am getting 2.3ohms.
Both of those readings are within spec.

There is no wall switch.

Could the on/off/adjustment dial on...

Pink Oak! (and yet another wood ID request)

I was splitting some white oak and noticed that a few pieces showed a very bight pink streak along the split face, just inside the heartwood from the punky layer. The pix don't do it justice but trust me, it really stands out in real life. You can see a little bit of it along the cut edge too, though not as well. I assume it's some kind of fungus but thought I'd see what y'all think. Almost looks like someone drew on it with a pink highlighter!

New regency i3100 broken weld

Just got this thing installed on Jan 16th. Now that the weather has been warm I let it cool to look it over and clean it out before next cold snap. I noticed this on the plate where the blower air comes out. The plate looks warped now that it has cooled. The highest Ive had this was 650 measured just above door in the center with a handheld temp gun. I also have a thermometer on the upper right corner just above the door thats pretty close to my temp gun reading. Ive tried to be careful with...

Hi,

Help, Thoughts, Ideas, suggestions???

Hello all,
I am newer to the fireplace heating world. We purchased our home about 1.5 years ago and there is a Majestic SC36 fireplace in the corner. I am was wanting to upgrade to an EPA ZC Fireplace, but I am running into issues I believe. The current fireplace is small and doesn't take up much room. The newer EPA ZC fireplaces are much bigger and take up a whole lot more room. I would have to bring my corner wall out into the living space over 12-15" for the EPA ZC fireplace. Is there...
