Using wood for home with large heat load?

0
0
I've been reading for a while, and have not been able to see anything similar to my situation.

I've a home that after insulation upgrades has a heat loss on design day of 98kbtu/h. Anyone out there using wood to heat a home with this large of a heat load?

thanks,
dave

I need to make up my mind! Gasification Boiler with Storage for New House

So, I posted back in March concerning a new boiler ideas and design. The post ended up getting into a personal argument about insulation. This isn't about insulation. I want 2x6 walls with blow in cellulose, for the attic: I'm thinking crumpled newspaper, ha jk. I am planning to break ground this May on a 2200 square foot chalet with 1/3 cathedral ceiling to 2nd floor. Daylight basement on the southern exposed short wall (28x42). An attached garage on a pad 26x36, 10-12x24 feet of it is going...

Two new PC's for me!

Expecting delivery on some new computing power this week. Two Dell T7610's, each populated with two eight-core XEON E5 processors at 3.1 GHz (8.0 GT/s), 32 GB RAM, and NVIDIA Tesla K20C 5GB GPU units (just for crunching data, the graphics card is actually just Nvidia Quadro K2000 2GB). Picked up another four 24" Dell U2412M monitors and two APC 2200VA UPS's to go with 'em.

The downside is, this should pick up my work pace quite a bit, as I sit here most of the day waiting on my current...

Drolet stoves any good ?

I am looking for feedback and reviews on the Drolet stoves. I think made in Canada. They are sold at my local menards. I was looking at the Austral or Myriad models both 3.1 cu ft . I wonder if they are comparable to the Englander 30. I have not checked yet to see how many they have in stock or if they have started to clearance out anything.

I have checked at Home Depot for the Englander 30 and they have none in stock anywhere within 100 miles of me so forget about trying to get one on...

Harman XXV in a 20' X 20' shed

I need a new pellet stove for my 20 x 20 shed I'm living in till my house gets built. I've been using an Avalon 900-PS but it's about wore out. I want a high quality stove big enough to be able to use in my house when it's completed a year from now.

My question is, does the Harman XXV have too much output for a small area like mine for a temporary setup?

I guess if it's too hot I could leave the door open :)

just thought I'd ask for opinions before going downtown to buy one

Really ! Went to lowes tonight and they are out of pellets.. how awesome..
Had to go to TSC and choose from Northeast pellets,( maines choice), the red bagged TSC brand pellets or green supreme..
So I got two Northeast, and two ofthe red bagged tsc brand.
Interesting note, just opened a bag of the northeast, and the pellets are white. Looked at the bag and it has bark free pellets.. First time ever opening a bag of maines choice, is this how the regular maines choice comes? How do they...

Got my VF100 installed today

Fun job it was, not really haha. I had to pull out my class A chimney and woodstove to do the job. I need to fab a plate for the ceiling where the pipe passes through the roof as well. I'll get more pics of my install once I get it all buttoned up. Next summer I will actually be moving it to a different location etc. so this is kind of a temporary install until I get my heart built in the opposite corner of the room and get a new roof put on the house. Yes I know my house is dirty lol but that...

Hardwood vs Softwood Pellets

First of all, I just want to thank everyone on this forum for their input. It's been extremely helpful.

I placed my order for a Harman P61A on Columbus Day Weekend. It was finally installed on 12/6. I was hoping that it would save me some money compared to using oil to heat my 2300 sq ft home. I never knew it would turn to an obsession.

Anyways, I've been on the hunt for wood pellets. I bought 1 ton NEWP in October. After discovering this forum and reading various threads, I wanted to try...

been in the 40's today, damp, chilly, rain off/on.
Have had the Harman P61A on room temp/manual all day and it's been keeping the downstairs here
at 70 degrees...
I have timed the Auger and every 60 seconds it feeds some pellets keeping it at a hot maint burn.
this seems to be very economical as it has been doing this all day....
[On room auto the stove prob would have shut off/and re-ignited on at least 10x today.]
Now how would this pan out if I had it on stove temp auto #4 ?
would it...

Lennox Montlake 230

Hi everyone,

I am shopping for a wood insert and my local dealer recommended a Lennox montlake 230. I see a couple of bad reviews here on the site. The montlake 230 is part of the "country collection" line of stoves that I hear are pretty good. What are your opinions on this insert? I will be heating a 1600 sq ft single story 1960's ranch style home.

I was impressed with the looks of the stove in person. The stove had a better efficiency rating than many of the other name brands in the store....

LP is now $2.23/gallon! Keep the wood stove fired up!

I called my LP supplier yesterday and they said LP is going for a whopping $2.23 a gallon now due to the cold winter and last falls harvest being moister than usual meaning more LP usage by farmers and elevators drying their corn and grains. Last year at this time LP was $1.33 a gallon so the upswing would be quite noticeable on ones bill!

That's one more nice thing about burning my scrounged wood, I can ride out the spikes and fill my 500 gallon tank when the price has settled down during the...

ESW EP-25 incomplete conbustion

Hello and happy holidays -

I have a new issue thats been developing with my fairly new stove. It seems im getting some sporadic incomplete combustion. Occasionally the burn pot will fill up overnight and back up all the way up to the auger chute. This of course scares me, as I do not want to start a hopper fire while we are asleep or out.

Symptoms:
Burn pot fills up and overflows, backing up into the chute
Classic "baking brownies" at the bottom of the burn pot
The stove will burn...

iPhone FLIR thermal camera

Saw this news release the other day, looks like a nice toy for looking for leaks and insulation gaps.

"One camera pulls thermal images, while the other pulls regular imaging data that it uses to outline shapes and make it easier to understand exactly what it is you’re looking at. It’s worth noting that this is no slouch of a thermal camera. The shooter can pick up heat signatures from as far as 100 meters away, and is apparently so sensitive it can spot a footprint left on the carpet even...

Thermometer hook up to T-STAT

0

Hi,
New here and I found an old post of when someone put a thermostat on their pellet stove. I'm trying to do the same as this old post. I have an older Honeywell dial thermostat, (mercury), that I want to hook up to my new US Stove 5660. Us Stove says this should work. Followed instructions and it makes a different fan noise when I switch to T-STAT mode, but won't react to the call of the thermostat. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Ed
